What is Project Lifesaver?

Project Lifesaver International is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization to help individuals with cognitive conditions such as Autism, Dementia, Alzheimer’s, or traumatic brain injury with a history of wandering. The program was originally founded in 1999 and has since grown and proven effective in bringing a loved one back home safely. This device uses time-tested radio frequency technology to provide families peace of mind that their loved ones can be found if they wander.

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office program, in collaboration with Project Lifesaver International, is equipped with the necessary technology and training to respond to an elopement and effectively manage the safe return of an individual.

What does the program entail?

Fort Bend County: Project Lifesaver relies on proven radio technology and trained teams. Individuals enrolled in the program wear a small transmitter on the wrist or ankle that emits a frequency signal. If the individual enrolled in the program goes missing, the caregiver notifies Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, and a trained emergency team responds to the area. Once the individual is found, they will bring them home safely.

How can I enroll my loved one?

If you want to enroll a loved one in the program, you must live in Fort Bend County. If so, click here to apply with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver.

Once the application is submitted, someone from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office will contact you to review the next steps.
