Hope For Three is honored to introduce Jonathan (Jay) Chism Jr. as our Autism All-Star for December!
Jay is a remarkable young boy who, despite facing challenges associated with autism, continues to inspire and amaze those around him.
Diagnosed with autism at the age of two, Jay has never let his condition define him. He is a vibrant, loving child who brings joy to everyone he meets. Jay is nonverbal but has made tremendous progress in learning new words and sounds. He utilizes his communication device to express his needs and wants, showing his determination and resilience.
Jay’s strong support system is vital to his growth and development. His mother, father, sister, grandparents, and aunts are always there for him, cheering him on every step of the way. They remind him daily of the importance of laughter and joy, evident in Jay’s contagious smile and bubbly personality.
Jay is an outdoor enthusiast. He loves exploring nature, whether hiking in the woods or playing in the park. He also enjoys traveling with his family. Jay is a true music enthusiast. He loves watching videos, listening to cartoon songs, tapping his feet, and swaying along to the rhythm.
Despite his nonverbal nature, Jay consistently puts a strong effort into communicating. He utilizes his AAC device and sounds words to the best of his ability, demonstrating his intelligence and determination. Jay has strong receptive language skills and works well with his ABA therapists, teachers, and tutors. He values order and consistency, which help create a stable and supportive environment for him to thrive in.
One of Jay’s most significant accomplishments is learning to ride a bicycle. His Occupational therapist worked with him, and his father practiced with him at home in their neighborhood. With unwavering support and encouragement, Jay has learned how to cycle, which proves his physical abilities and the power of perseverance.
Jay is a true inspiration to everyone who knows him. His journey with autism has been filled with challenges, but he has always faced them with strength and resilience. He is a shining example of the incredible potential of autistic individuals and serves as a reminder that anything is possible with love, support, and determination.
